You can't die like this. Not again. Not like in every other video game where you feel cheated because of your own stupidity even though it was clearly laid out that this was a trap. Not this time.
You muster every ounce of strength you have and put it toward getting out of this pit. However, you actually manage to fall further down instead.
Tears fall down your cheeks. "I'm sorry, Heather." You didn't exactly do anything, though, and Heather's obviously the pants-wearer between the two of you. She should be apologizing. Not you.
But nothing else feels right. You're about to die, and so is Heather. Actually, thinking about it, it is your fault. You left your apartment and crossed her path. If you had just stayed inside like always, maybe neither of you would be in the predicament you're in now. You'd still be happy in your caccoon, and Heather would be doing Heather-stuff.
You continue to cry, and each tear sizzles when it hits the magma below. Wait, steam. That's it! If you can create enough steam, maybe it'll create an updraft that'll lift you out of this hole.
You cry harder, but nothing happens. Figures. Video game logic doesn't work in real life.
...Or does it?
You let go of walls and quickly flail your body to match the Konami code. For B, you hit you backside; for A, your front. For start, you shout the magic words that Tingle created himself and warned you not to steal. I'm hope he won't mind.
You hear a copyrighted video game jingle that I'm not allowed to describe here, and after burning to a crisp, you reappear before the council of burgers, blinking for a few moments. All the burgers are busy sharing an evil laugh, but Betty silences them all with a "shush" and a hand gesture when he see you.
The burger emperor grins. "You know the Konami Code." He rises from his seat and takes a step toward you. "I'm impressed."
One of the other burgers looks at Betty. "Sir, can we destroy him? At this rate he'll thwart our plans to destroy the universe!"
Betty shushes him. "Bu-" Shush!
The burger slumps in his chair, harumping like an old grump.
Betty stretches forth his hand. "Tell us, Mr. Everyman, what would you like to know. I will answer one question."
